Environmental Risk Management

We adopt a proactive strategy to manage environmental risks and anticipate potential environmental risks through identification, assessment and hierarchical control of environmental aspects and impacts in all operations.

We have established a Level 1-3 emergency response system to ensure environmental emergencies are well managed. With clearly-defined responsibilities, documentations and trainings and drills implemented in place, we are capable to take immediate response in event of environmental emergencies to prevent pollution expansion or secondary pollution.

To ensure ESH compliance in all operations of Sime Darby Motors China, we engage third parties to conduct audits on all national and provincial ESH-related laws, regulations and national standards (GB) for applicability and compliance. By August 2022, we have reviewed 18798 ESH-related and applicable terms for our business operations across Guangdong, Hunan, Hainan, Yunnan, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Sichuan and Chongqing and achieved 100% compliance.

Clean Production

We have been promoting clean production with continuous improvement efforts in our business operations. Hazardous wastes are strictly controlled and managed to ensure full implementation of the pollutant discharge reduction targets required by the State and Sime Darby Berhad.

We strive to apply advanced technologies and increase investments in innovations to drive our product portfolio to be more energy-efficient, e.g. NEVs, wastewater recycle, VOC treatment, etc.

We make a point of hazardous waste management. Apart from abiding by hazardous waste management requirements specified by government authorities, Sime Darby Berhad also set 1% reduction of hazardous waste intensity per year (total weight of hazardous wastes / total hours worked) as a key performance indicator.

Energy/Water/Waste Reduction

How to conserve and make reasonable use of natural resources is important to us. We use water conservation and wastewater recycle technologies to enhance water resource efficiency and utilization process management.

By measuring water intensity (total water consumption / total hours worked) as a key performance indicator, we have achieved 17% reduction of water consumption in businesses of China Mainland in FY 22 from FY21.
